Phillies at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: NBCSP, SPNLA

The Fighting Phils send RHP Zack Wheeler (1-3, 4.10 ERA) to the Dodger Stadium mound to face the Dodgers’ LHP Tyler Anderson (3-0, 2.78 ERA). Two of Wheeler’s first three starts were pretty bad, but in his last two he hasn’t allowed a run in 13 2/3 innings. In Anderson’s last two starts, both wins, he’s gone 5 innings. His first two appearances were in relief of Gonsolin by design.

  • 1979 Bill Murray, anchorman on Saturday Night Live Weekend Update reports 42 year-old Chico Escuela (a fictional baseball player portrayed by Garrett Morris) has informed the Mets that he is quitting baseball. Although baseball has been “berra berra good…” to him, a crushing blow off the bat of Dodger first baseman Steve Garvey into the Dominican’s infielder’s crotch ends an inspiring comeback.
  • 1990 Blanking the Dodgers at Shea Stadium, 7-0, Frank Viola gets his seventh consecutive win from the start of the season. The Mets southpaw sets a franchise record of nine straight victories, dating back to his past two decisions last season.
  • 2004 In one of the most remarkable at-bats in big league history, Alex Cora fouls off 14 consecutive pitches and then hits the 18th thrown to him by the Cubs’ Matt Clement over the right-field fence for a two-run home run which doubles LA’s lead to 4-0. The Dodger Stadium crowd cheered each foul ball, watching the increasing total displayed on the scoreboard.

  • 2015 Giancarlo Stanton becomes the fourth player to hit a home run out of Dodger Stadium, joining Mark McGwire (1999), Mike Piazza (1997), and Willie Stargell, who accomplished the feat twice (1969, 1973). The jaw-dropping first-inning blast off Mike Bolsinger, estimated to have traveled 475 feet, proves to be the only bright spot in the Marlins’ 11-1 loss to LA at Chavez Ravine.

  1. This one is on Roberts for leaving Anderson in for so long when he was geting rocked. And using Hudson instead of just about anyone else.

  2. I’m already very peeved. Pitcher and catcher not making any adjustments with what is happening.

  3. DH could not have come at a better time for the Phillies. Without it, Harper is probably on the 60 day IL.

  4. Through four innings on the South Side, Dylan Cease of the Chisox has fanned 11 Yanquis and trails 6-3. He’s thrown 90 pitches, and now he’s done for the night.

  5. Dodgers with 10 losses now. And Hudson has 3 of them. Might want to rethink how you use him Dave.

  6. Bases loaded and nobody out and you don’t score – you deserve to lose. Bad at bats from Barnes, Beli and CT3.

  7. Cody could not lay off those high fastballs, and Barnesie couldn’t show any patience. Plus Hudson was not sharp.

  8. Ok Will. Make good contact and hope it finds grass or wall or seats.

    • Kind of saw it coming when we didn’t score the go ahead run from 3rd.

  9. Umpired a game tonight. Last I had seen was 7-1. Just took the dog for a a walk. And now we’re tied!

    • Maybe the pooch needs another short stroll in the bottom of the ninth!

  10. Kissing the proverbial sibling right now. But it’s hopefully a sign of better things to come tonight.

    • Always disappointing/frustrating when you have a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs and don’t score the run.

  11. After looking after a tired kid and a sick wife – I’m finally able to tune into this game. Let’s finish the job here Dodgers.

    • Hope she’s okay. Lots of sickness going around after things opening up and masks off.

  12. Roberts pretty much throwing in the towel on this game. Saving the bullpen.

  13. Not a fun game to watch so far. Tyler is really struggling but this one may be a wash.

    • Guess we will have to wait and see. I hope it is just and off night. If this is the mean we better be looking for another starting pitcher.

  15. Wheeler is just pouring it on with the fast ball strikes. He looks VERY sharp tonight.
