Dodgers at Cubs, 4.10 PM PDT, TV: ESPN
RHP Walker Buehler (3-1, 2.12 ERA) climbs the hill to face the Cubs’ RHP Marcus Stroman (1-3, 5.13 ERA) in the Dodgers’ first appearance on Sunday Night Baseball this season. In Buehler’s last start he threw a complete game three-hit shutout, the third complete game of his career. Stroman has made five starts this season and lost the middle three, but he won his last game, going seven innings and giving up just two hits and no runs.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1941 An Army-Navy Relief game between New York’s two National League teams raises over $60,000. Dolph Camilli’s homer is the difference in the Ebbets Field exhibition as the Dodgers edge the Giants, 7-6.
- 2012 Josh Hamilton becomes the 16th major leaguer to hit four home runs in one game when he blasts an 0-2 pitch over the Camden Yards centerfield fence in the eighth inning of the Rangers’ 10-3 victory over Baltimore. The Texas outfielder, who connected each time with a man on base, also hits a double to set the American League’s single-game record for total bases with 18, one shy of Shawn Green’s major league mark of 19 established in 2002 with the Dodgers.
In a sign that the apocalypse cannot be far away, in 2012 the New York State Senate congratulates Mr. Met with a voice approved resolution, honoring the larger-than-life bobblehead for being named the best mascot in the U.S. in a fan survey conducted by the Marketing Arm. The Amazins’ spherical symbol of cheer, who defeated the popular Phillie Phanatic in the poll, is commended by the legislative body for having his legacy serve as “a sterling example for all mascots”.

NPUT
Very nice inning by Buehler.
Unhelpful DP – even though it scored a run.
But Dodgers catch a break!
Gift runs gratefully accepted.
Carson Fulmer and Phil Bickford picked ahead of Buehler in the draft.
Now would be a good time for Muncy and JT to break out.

+74 run differential. Next best is NYY with +48.
Other end of the spectrum: Reds at -79 (yikes!)
Best record in baseball!
As it should be.
“Julie” agrees.
Woo-HOO!!!
Happy Momma’s Day!
Thanks!!!
Dodgers win!
Buen Juego!!
Hoping that was the penultimate out of the game.
Moronta time.
Robbie Erlin (?)
I have not heard of this guy.
A journeyman they picked up, not one of the prospects.
Giving the new kid a chance to get acclimated.
Cool
2 runs score on the error!
Freddie! Lux shoulda scored there. Maybe. I don’t know.

Thanks Buddy.
“Kim” agrees.
Yea Freddy. Duck for TT.
Nice at bat by Lux.
Need to get this game over. Got a plane to catch.
Where are you flying to?
Pittsburgh. 6:30pm EDT game tomorrow.
Oh! Sweet!
Solo trip or going with someone?
LOL. Not me Dave. The Dodgers.
On to the ninth.
No way. Ball one.
Belli 3-4!
And Taylor struggling badly.
Presuming the Dodgers hold on, they will have baseball’s best record at 19-7 (.731). The Yanquis are next best at 19-8 (.704).
A fine effort Walker.
His first “100” start stats compare well with a number of big time hurlers.
Ok Walker. Let’s get this last out in the 7th.
Ta-Da!!
98 pitches. 4 hits 1 walk 6 k’s and just the one run.
Happy 100th!
Glad Taylor didn’t crash the wall going for that foul ball..
Don’t want him doing a Pete Reiser.
Go get’em Walker.
Dodgers taking advantage of their opportunities tonight.
Attrition in action.

Crazy!

Freddie drives in Lux.
Good AB.
Duck on the pond.
Bust it open Freddy.
Dodgers in business again here.
One more inning for Buehler?
He’s at 83 pitches through 6…
83 pitches. Tough call. With our bullpen, I would probably pull him.
Seems like a good idea, with Brusdar not available to eat an inning.
And given 31 games in 30 days.
Yikes.
Yeah – not exactly union approved I’m guessing. But probably happens because of the condensed sched this season.
DP for the good guys.
Probably last inning for Walker.
Taylors SO rate is alarming.
Almost Bart-Like.
Yeah, but he’s hitting double what Bart is.
C’mon Belli, unload on this Rucker…
Let’s keep the deuces coming this inning Dodgers.
DPs are like tripping. It sucks when it happens to you, but, it can be funny when it happens to someone else.
Truth.
Ducks on the pond!
Brenda liked yours!
Ha!
Duckies on the pond.
Oh wow – good timing.
Lots of up votes tonight. Either someone’s mom is wanting to encourage everyone – or there is a glitch in the matrix.
Not that getting up votes is a major issue! Lol.

I tried to do this but messed up and ended up blocking you (then figured out how to unblock you)!
Brenda likes this.
Hee!
I like this comment, but don’t think Tara does.
Not many guys left from the Cubs 2016 WS champion team. Contreas and Heyward are the only ones I recognize.
I really wanted the Dodgers to sign Zobrist in 2016 as a free agent after his season with the Royals in 2015.
Now Walker needs to find his groove and settle in for the next 3 or 4 innings.
Could use an extra base hit here for fun.
I wish Taylor would cut down on his SO.
BELLI!!
Belli beats it out!
Belli back up the middle again.
For those who’ve been missing him. https://twitter.com/TalkinBaseball_/status/1523449512093659141?s=20&t=j8uQgaRMxz8x9NWRoLGf8g
Kiwoom!!!
That was a weird little incident with Muncy and Contreras. Contreras should have been called for the flagrant foul.
It’s time to send this hack to the showers.
JT at least ties it up.
Good AB.
The ESPN blackout includes highlight videos, of course.
Dang. Freddie almost tied it up
SeeYa, Seiya.
sayonara
Buehler disgusted with himself with that walk.
He’s not sharp so far today..
Yes. Just missing his spots a little bit.
CT3 avoids hitting into the DP
As does Lux. Lol
Belli – right back up the middle.
Didn’t the Cachorros have somebody playing there on the shift?
CODY!!
Those caps suck. They should have put the LA in blue.
Time to score Dodgers.
It’s a beautiful day for baseball. Let’s score 10.
There goes the scoreless streak
The Cards blew one to the Gnats, and then the Fish just blew a walk-off to the Pads.
Well, as long as the Dodgers don’t lose the next 10 games in a row, they will be ahead of last year’s 18-17 start.
Buehler starting his 100th game. Currently 43-14, .754 winning percentage with a 2.87 ERA.
That works.
Everything on the schedule is MLBTV’s Free Game of the Day – except, of course, the ESPN blackout.

Stroman has been pulled as the Cubs starter today and placed on what seems to be the Covid IL list.
The Cubs will sub Justin Steele, a lefty.
Essentially turns this into a bullpen game for the Cubs.
Not acknowledged, but seems likely. https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/1523391467724492800?s=20&t=6m197_3dFMtXzSBG3wjELw
Steele has started 5 games and pitched a total of 18 innings. He’s good for 3 innings or once thru the lineup.
