Pirates at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet PIT, SPNLA
RHP JT Brubaker (4-12, 5.13 ERA) pitches for the Pirates. The Dodgers are using multiple members of their bullpen.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1959 Long time baseball executive Branch Rickey is named president of the newly formed Continental League. The 77 year-old former Dodger general manager is currently serving as an advisor with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1982 In the second longest game in franchise history, the Cubs lose to the Dodgers, 2-1. The Wrigley Field contest, which is played over two days, takes a Dusty Baker sacrifice fly and 21 innings to complete.
A sad note: On this day in 1967 Jack Hamilton of the Angels threw a fastball which shattered Tony Conigliaro’s left cheekbone. The 22 year-old Red Sox slugger missed the rest of 1967 and all of the following year and never came close to the Hall of Fame potential displayed during his first three seasons.

NPUT
White’s going so deep into this game is huge, given that tomorrow will also be a bullpen game.
Gnats do gnot play tomorrow, which is unfortunate given how they burned their pen today.
Who will we start tomorrow?
Closely guarded secret.
So, the Coke formula or the KFC 13 herbs and spices.
Ha!
Orange Julius.
“Witch Might”
Maxwell with the hammer tonight. Woot!!
Brubaker could use a slightly large field.
Pillar homers in the 12th. 5-2 Mets!!!!
Gnot a Gnat gnow. Let’s hear it for Tyler Chatwood!
And make that 6-2! Chatwood due up third in bottom of 12th, and Gnats are out of position players.
A tiny tiny swoon.
It’s just the start…
In that 1982 game, both Fernando and Bob Welch played in both LF and RF.
Did either of them get any chances?
I don’t think so. I vaguely recall Lasorda moving them around according to the batter, to minimize their chances of having a ball hit to them.
But see… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9562eb5dbabaddd60e3641ad2a3e96cb799db682735c555d1991a52b6c9c77f1.png
But Fernando caught a fly ball… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/529ba544f64ed5bf832cf2c31d2e368094e61c328f30ff3c220240c1b5f81669.png
Mitch White is the first Dodgers
reliever to go 7.1 scoreless IP since Ed Roebuck on 6/24/1960.
It should be Buehler Thursday night on regular rest. He last pitched on Saturday.
Giving extra rest to both Buehler and Scherzer this time through. Walker will go Friday and Max Saturday.
Got it. Well, I know that White won’t be starting.
The Giants begin a possibly tough 16-game stretch Friday night with three at Oakland.
Could be the start of WBBs’ Giant tank.
You misspelled “Gnats.”
With Thursday off, they’ll have to work hard to keep their 12th-inning momentum – but trust in the process!
I found the game on a Live Stream on Youtube.
3 back of San Fran. Let’s go!
BALLGAME!!!!!!!
Mitch White, lights out!!!!
White Lightning!!
Dodgers win!!
One more out to go. I don’t call being so invested in a regular season 9-0 game and rooting for the shutout to be finished up.
Woo-HOO!!!!
If White throws a scoreless inning here – that’s got to be one of the best “relief” pitching jobs in Dodger history.
Indeed.
Going to the bottom of the 8th:
1-4 hitters: 9 for 14, 8R, 9 RBI.
5-8 hitters: 0 for 13, 0R, 0RBI.
Fireworks for Tio Albert!
Fireworks in SoCal at this season are not a good thing.
Terrible idea indeed.
Especially in the hills.
Some year there will be a bill come due in regards to playing the Pirates. Last time they had a losing record against them was not that long ago. In 2016, they had a 2-5 record vs Pittsburgh.
But since then:
2017:6-1
2018:5-1
2019:6-0
2021: 6-0 (if they win tonight)
23-2 is like a 149 win season over 162 games.
Jake Reed, who pitched the 12th and final inning of the Mets’ 6-2 win over the Giants today (a non-save situation) has pitched for four AAA teams this season and two MLB clubs — the Dodgers and the Mets.
He pitched for the Dodgers today, too.
Funny.
OK it’s just the Pirates, but White is absolutely breezing.
He is throwing strike after strike after strike.
The Blue Emu. Working fast and doesn’t stink.
He deserves a big hug.
Muncy has five homers in his last nine official at bats.
Is that good? It seems good. 😉
So is… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zb1qsVqjwg
My son’s flag football season ended tonight with a nothing-went-right, crushing loss 45-13.
This game is a small balm to my soul.
My son’s flag football season ended tonight with a nothing-went-right, crushing loss 45-13.
This game is a small balm to my soul.
Sorry to hear about the results of your son’s game.
Thanks Scoop. He scored one of the 2 TD’s his team scored and made some other nice plays, but it was a rough night for the whole team.
There was lots of love still from all the parents on the sidelines however!
How old is he?
15. Playing in his 4th flag football season.
No tackle in Canadia? (In my opinion, better not to).
Lots of love, win or lose, is more important than the outcome at that level, as it should be at almost every level of sports.
Ice Cream is also good.
Ab-so-lute-ly!!!
I would love for Bellinger to join the parade.
Seeeeegs!!
Laugher!
Oh yeah, Seager!
Seager! Guess the wrist is ok!
Mitch White and the makings of an all-colorful MLB pitching staff: Mitch White, Dallas Green, Vida Blue, Joe Black, Kevin Brown, Josiah Gray and Moses Yellow Horse.
Plus Red Ruffing
With Red Barber announcing the games and Red Smith covering them.
Joe Black.
Beaty in. JT out.
Mitch White + Andre Jackson = Josiah Gray?
I know they don’t – but they have pitched well the last few nights.
Tonight’s game (at least thus far): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYnhckZcllU
I got Lux going for extra bases here.
Well at least he got to first.
White might go deep into the game. Nice pitch count and ball/strike ratio.
Mitchy is dealing
Ouch, Corey.
Are we at least chuckling?
Giggling like a school girl.
Max2
Just sneakin’ ’em out tonight.
MAX!! Maaaaaxxxx!!
AJ on the ball tonight.
I hear Tsutsugo and I still think Susudio by Phil Collins.
How long will Brubacker go?
Will he make five.
How high will the strike zone go?
He rarely throws more than 90 pitches a game.
Polluck pummels the pill.
Precisely.
Bellinger and Lux need to start wearing the Buehler tight pants.
Ha! Good call.
JAAJHR
Exactly!
AJ!
Batting leadoff suits him apparently.
I kinda like bringing in White here. It’s like working a really short week – get one guy out and you are through your first “inning” of work.
Of course, it helps to get that out early.
Freddie Freeman cycled for the Barves tonight.
What is your nickname for the Rockies?
The Rox – as with the others, it’s purely descriptive.
Ok. Good inning.
A bit surprised to see JT score on a hard hit ball, but Polanco made a terrible throw.
Seager I thought could have made it to second on the throw.
Gather he was surprised as well that Dino sent JT home.
Fair enough
I was surprised.
Let’s go. Jetlag might be over. Lol
Wow! Great start!
Wouldn’t mind a laugher tonight.
Might happen.
Just snuck it over. No batflip.
Oh Maxy baby!
Muncter Mash.
Max!!! 2 run blast.
Leadoff hitter doing leadoff things.
LF AJ
1b Max
3b Justin
SS Corey
C Will
CF Cody
RF Billy
2b Gavin
P Bruihl
CT3 and Trea both sitting. Seems to me you could rest them on seperate days.
So far it’s working out.
Guessing Doc wanted everyone with at least a day off before the four with the Mets.
Mutts used their pen pretty heavily v. the Gnats.
Max sprinting to first to get the out.
Playing with house money tonight. Baby needs new shoes.
I love that expression.
AJ leading off. Very interesting!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krD4hdGvGHM
Exactly what I was referencing!
Doesn’t do it much anymore, but over his career batting first leads by far over other slots.
For additional good news, the Rox crushed the Pads again.
Old friend Jake Reed closes it out for the Mutts, fanning the fearsome Chatwood.
