Game 105, 2021

Dodgers at Diamondbacks, 6:40 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Arizona, SPNLA

RHP Tony Gonsolin (2-1, 2.38 ERA) goes for the visiting Dodgers. He’ll face the Diamondbacks’ RHP Zac Gallen (1-5, 4.80 ERA).

Also,

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 2004 In a blockbuster trade, the Marlins deal Brad Penny, the winner of two World Series games last season, first baseman Hee Seop Choi, and southpaw prospect Bill Murphy (who will be traded to the Diamondbacks tomorrow) to the Dodgers for backstop Paul Lo Duca, relief pitcher Guillermo Mota, and much-traveled outfielder Juan Encarnacion.
  • 2017 Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre collects his 3000th hit when he doubles in the fourth inning in the Rangers’ 10-6 loss to the Orioles at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The twenty-year veteran, who has also spent time with the Dodgers, Mariners, and the Red Sox, is the first-ever Dominican-born player to reach the coveted milestone.

  1. If Turner No. 2 were available now, I’d put him at second base — I know he is far more of a shortstop — move Taylor to center and put Bellinger on the bench.

  2. Well, that was better, and if AJ had hit that anywhere else in the park we’d be up by a few..

  3. Hopefully only 1/180 odd games we get to play this season (and help is on the way

    • As said before, it’s actually a miracle we are still in contention for the division, let alone making the playoffs

      • One time I thought I wrote this brilliant stand up routine at 2am when I had a fever. I looked at the notes on my phone after the fever broke and it was not funny. Not at all.

But for a moment – it was comedy gold. Lol

  4. Well, that’s 4 1/2 hours that I won’t get back. The Dodgers have now lost 8 of 12 and are 13-12 in July.

  5. All this with a bullpen game tomorrow. Can they call someone up from OKC?

    • I can’t figure out why I feel sanguine tonight but I’ll take it. I’ve been so fraught the past few weeks.

  6. I have a mystery I’d like to finish watching after 10th-inning Dodger victory.

    • 1-10? 1-11?
I honestly don’t know what a reasonable explanation could be for that record for this team.

  7. Perfect scenario: Bellinger comes up with two outs, bases loaded, score still tied and hits a homer.

  8. A non-save situation for Kenley always worries me, but I don’t have the stats to back that up.

  9. A successful sacrifice bunt there might have helped him snap out of his malaise.

  10. In his first appearance of the year, Kelly gave up 4 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning for an ERA of 54.00. His ERA is now a season low of 3.33.

  11. I think CT3 is our MVP thus far this season. If it came down to signing him OR Seager, I’d favor signing Taylor.

  12. Will Smith, in his short career, is now 0-for-5 with bases loaded and none out and his fanned three times in those at bats.

  13. So much for a shutdown inning. . . . We’ve gotten far more from Vesia than I ever expected.

          • I know I may be risking Jon’s Rule No. 5, but Israeli diplomat Abba Eban said it about the Arabs in 1973 after the Geneva Peace Conference with Arab countries in 1973.

      • He won’t cut down that big swing. Always trying to hit it out of the park. Needs a trip to Oklahoma.

        • I agree. If he’d just shorten it up – almost play pepper with his swing, he might remember what it feels like to connect and relax. He looks so tense up there.

  14. Old friend Connor Joe has homered at The Litterbox, where Rox now lead Pads 6-0 in the fourth.

  15. I see where DeGrom is going to be out at least another 2 weeks. Leaves the door wide open for Buehler to win the Cy Young.

  16. So unfortunate that the extra bullpen help – or whatever Duffy is supposed to be – won’t be able to pitch until Sept.

  17. In the first at The Litterbox, Ryan McMahon’s slam has given the Rox a 4-0 lead over the Pads.

  18. The Asterisks have taken a 2-0 lead over the Gnats, as Gooseman threw 43 pitches in the first.

  19. I have a been out of the loop for a few days, at a mini-reunion with some college friends. I don’t know what has been posted here about the Dodgers’ trades, but I am very pleased. I think we did better than the Giants or the Padres in the flurry of deals.

  20. Seager is probably thinking ‘I’d better hit and play great defence from the get go’

    • Thinking the same thing. Now that the Dodgers have acquired Turner No. 2, I think the bargaining position of Seager and his agent Boras is not as strong, at least with the Dodgers. Still, it would be great if the Dodgers could resign Seager.
