Dodgers at Padres, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports San Diego, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
LHP Clayton Kershaw (8-6, 3.36 ERA) goes for the visiting Dodgers and LHP Blake Snell (2-3, 5.72 ERA) goes for the Padres.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1936 At Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field, Ival Goodman hits an unusual home run when his fifth-inning fly ball lands and stays on top of the scoreboard in right field. With the perched ball considered in play, the three Dodger outfielders watch the Reds’ right fielder round the bases for an easy inside-the park round-tripper in their 7-2 loss to Cincinnati.
- 1947 After pitching a no-hitter four days ago against the Braves, Reds hurler Ewell Blackwell loses his chance for a second consecutive no-hitter when Dodger second baseman Eddie Stanky singles with one out the ninth inning at Crosley Field.
- 1959 Sandy Koufax goes the distance, beating Philadelphia at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, 6-2. The Dodger southpaw fans 16 Phillies to set a new record for strikeouts in a night game.
- 1966 At the Astrodome, Houston sets a home attendance mark which will last for 22 years. Dodger southpaw Sandy Koufax, who tosses a complete game to improve his record to 13-2, beats the hometown team, 5-2, in front of the 50,908 fans attending the Wednesday contest.

In other totally non-baseball-related and shamelessly self-promoting news, however: this was written today about the film I co-wrote, Security, now streaming on Netflix and sitting at number 3 of the top ten movies this week: https://decider.com/2021/06/22/security-netflix-review-stream-it-or-skip-it/
Wowser!
First words of praise characterize the film as “tightly-constructed”, a nod to the screen writing.
I’m thrilled at the response. Very unexpected.
Ha! The only thing the critic doesn’t like is the title.
Woo-Hoo to you. Congratulations.

Need Bauer to stop the bleeding.
2 for 8 RISP, 10 LOB. We had our opportunities.
I am watching the game on the MLBTV channel. Doesn’t Smoltz ever shut up?
Why not watch the SNLA broadcast?
I am not a subscriber and I live on the Monterey Peninsula. MLBTV is my only option.
It’s the free game tonight.
OK, thanks….Are the Dodgers more likely to win if I watch the SNLA broadcast?
Well, you’ll hear Joe Davis (great) and Orel (not quite so great). You can download the app for free.
Well, rats.
Well said my friend.

This is my worst game of the year, WBB.
This is the lowest I have felt all season.
Two consecutive losses is no cause for panic.
I know but such an annoying game against an annoying team.
I have always wondered and not just in the context of baseball: When, actually, is it time to panic?
I’m old enough to remember the 1959 season, when everything went right down to the wire, and it all went right. https://vault.si.com/vault/1959/09/28/crazy-pennant-race
SO FRUSTRATING.
Now they’re just teasing us. (The baseball gods.)
And tease us they did.
Tired of it. Ready for them to deliver some wins.
Keep it going, boys in blue!
Barnesie!
Put me out of my misery.
Why not McKinstry instead of Barnes.
That’s why!
Delighted to be proven wrong!
There’s your answer.
Regarding the DP, how often do the two lead runners become the outs?
How’s the fire situation there?
Fire progressing slowly in the opposite direction of where we live, so we are less worried than we were a few days ago. Thank you for asking.
First, for the record, I am getting increasingly crabby. However, Pollock seems listless to me whether he gets a hit or makes an out. At the risk of repeating myself, we miss the energy/enthusiasm/even goofiness that we got from Pederson, Hernandez and Verdugo. Watching Doc’s post-game press conferences, with rare exceptions, it is hard to tell whether we won or lost. Perhaps it is good to have that even demeanor. Still, once in a blue moon, I would like to a little of Lasorda’s fire in him.
Fellow has OPS 1.013 RISP. I am fine with him doing whatever he wants.
Three runs in 17 innings in San Diego coming on two solo home runs and a DP.
18 is a charm?
0 for a kazillion with RISP.
Pfffft.
Classic (as in all during his first year) AJ. Watched a strike and swung at a ball.
Agreed. I had no confidence that he would produce in that at bat.
See below. The same.
I have little to no faith that we will score here.
AJ in a big spot.
Has been our top guy RISP for much of the season, but not to be this time
If Smith had only just struck out.
I just returned to the game. Why was Betts removed?
He had stomach flu earlier today.
Thanks.
What can go wrong tonight will go wrong.
That DP was the worst example.
Gameday has that play wrong.
Man. What a DP buzz kill after bases loaded and no outs. Good play by Machado.
Gameday keeps going back and forth on what happened.
Manny tagged JT on the sleeve as he ran past and then threw to second for the forceout.
Bags full!
Signifying nothing.
Well, we did get a run out of a DP, though not a trade off we can afford at this point.
Nice bit of hitting by Albert there.
We are so dang streaky, is the thing.
This is not a fun game to watch.
Does anyone else think that the Dodgers should do more base stealing? Hit-and-run?
More than never sounds good.
LOL.
You bet.
Well, Mookie gave it his all.
My dog, Wally, must have sensed that I am in a crabby mood. He didn’t want to get out of the car and take his usual walk around the park with me, but I managed to convince him to exit the vehicle.
I’m crabby, too.
This incessant checking of pitchers is making a mockery of the game.
It is indeed.
Snell averages 4 innings a start. We may see a reliever to start the fifth or at least a quick hook.
Could Albert score from second on a triple?
Muncy really has the eye.
Strike three, ump.
Or missing altogether…
Sergio Romo relieves Scherzer. https://twitter.com/RickeyBlog/status/1407530559526428676?s=20
He’s an opener after all.
Either hitting over or hitting under but not hitting square.
Argh! Four pitch walk to HIM?
Nice play, Max!
Padres are wiping the floor with us offensively speaking.
Too early to say that.
True but we’ve lost five of the last six.
They have been hitting more aggressively and with more conviction, and stealing bases left and right.
Well, our left and their right.
I’m getting crabby too early tonight. I am going to take my dog for a long walk now.
What kind of dog have you? I took our rescue husky for a long one this morning that included dog park wind sprints.
Labradoodle. Big, friendly, loving.
Love that breed!
They give dogs a good name (I am a catman like Gonsolin).
You both need a Rottweiler.
Smith is now 2-for-23 in the first inning this year.
I had such high hopes after the one pitch out to Tatis.
Remember when Kershaw never gave up home runs to left-handed batters?
Those were the days my friend.
1st of the season. 48th of career or about 25% of the dingers he has given up.
You are right.
So are you. That was the 10th dinger this season. In his last CYA season he gave up nine in total, one to a lefty.
Cookie down the middle, Kersh. No bueno.
Here we go again. ##%!..¥
¡Miércoles!
Seriously.
Andy Pagés does it again! https://twitter.com/FutureDodgers/status/1407524332969078793?s=20
Well, Albert can’t GIDP here.
Max does not suffer fools. https://twitter.com/Jared_Carrabis/status/1407501813914378241?s=20
The third check which was requested by Fillies manager Girardi, who later gets tossed for coming out the dugout to provoke Max.
Might want to employ sniffer dogs. When the robo umps come onboard they can do a scan.

Girardi deserves a suspension.
