Phillies at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), NBCSP, SPNLA
RHP Zack Wheeler (4-3, 2.29 ERA) goes for the Phillies and LHP Clayton Kershaw (8-5, 3.39 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers. Wheeler has gone seven innings in eight of his last nine starts; in his last one he went eight scoreless innings and struck out twelve. Kershaw had a couple of bad starts but in his last one he went six innings and gave up just one unearned run.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1933 Last year’s National League batting champ, Lefty O’Doul, and pitcher Watty Clark, a 20-game winner last season, are traded by the Dodgers to the Giants for first baseman Sam Leslie. Brooklyn’s newest infielder will bat .311 during his three seasons with the team, before returning to New York in 1936.

NPUT
Reds just blew up Melancon in the 9th to take a 4-2 lead.
And then gave two runs back. Tie game, bottom of the 9th.
Then blew it. Geez!!
Reds blow it. Lose 6-4 on a walk off HR.
Bummer. Thought they had’em.
The Dbacks are really really bad on the road. May they stay that way at home.
They are 11-19 at home.
Barnes has become relatively useless as a batter. Maybe he will turn it around a bit, but I am not confident about that.
Barnes would be a full-time starter for quite a few teams, including contenders.
Hoo boy, that was a lousy game to see the highlights of.
Kind of saw it coming when they posted the lineup. Oh well, won the series. Keep winning series and we will finish first.
There were no highlights (well, Bickford did throw two more scoreless innings with lots of strikes).
Dang it.
Wow. That ump is really pushing his luck.
By his standards, the third pitch was also a strike.
Need to swing Mookie.
Dodgers have had lots of traffic tonight. But they have been tied up on the Freeway still waiting to make it home.
Very bad hitting by Barnes.
It happens.
Double ouch.
Ouch!
Desultory Dodgers thus far tonight.
The Dodgers have not been blanked since September 14, 2019.
I guess we were due.
Souza, Barnes and then Turner?
Maybe Smith.
I’m here for the walk-off…
No Bellinger, Muncy, Seager, Smith or Turner in tonight’s lineup against a very good pitcher. That put us behind the 8-ball from the start.
This might be the dullest Dodgers game of the year.
No argument there.
Pollock seems to play the game with very little emotion.
Alvarado was good.
So good that they named a major street in L.A. after him.
Another bad call. Sigh.
When unreachable pitches get called strikes…
OK. Now lets light up their bullpen.
For what it’s worth, the Portuguese “Souza” is pronounced identically to the Spanish “Sosa.”
Nice effort by Kersh. Now the offense needs to step up.
Decent but not dominant.
0 for 6 RISP, 8 LOB. We’ve had our opportunities.
It may be up to us and us alone to slow the gnats’ roll.
The Gnats might still hold off the Rox for third.
Phillies are very aggressive tonight. Kersh as may need to change up his pitching sequences a little.
C’mon Chris, be a hero.
Pagés punishing the ball again. https://twitter.com/FutureDodgers/status/1405356197759365127?s=20
If you can see the ball, Zach, it’s gonna be called a strike.
Yep. Better be giving those to Kershaw.
Electronic ump can’t get here soon enough. At least it will be the same for both pitchers.
Good grief. All three were balls.
MLBTV is on sale for $52.99 for the rest of the season (post-season not included, unless you’re overseas).
Lux tends to double-clutch before he throws. No harm this time.
Or this.
Ooph.
And away we go.
Once again, the Snakes have taken an early lead over the Gnats.
And then…
It’s that home cooking… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/764fa2bf071d3203e9a2054c45432520730b52739807e16ca0c7374c8efc3379.png
Didn’t last long. LOL
Not terribly optimistic with this line up going against a pretty good pitcher. Why is Turner not in the line up? He has actually hit Wheeler well. Oh well, fingers crossed.
Newly acquired Souza is a local hero for an amazing catch of a fly ball in 2014. Last game of the season and final out to give Jordan Zimmermann a no-no.
