Rangers at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest, SPNLA
The Rangers send the hard-luck RHP Mike Foltynewicz (1-6, 4.75 ERA) to the Dodger Stadium mound to face the Dodgers’ LHP Clayton Kershaw (7-5, 3.66 ERA). Foltynewicz has several quality starts in April and May despite his six losses. Kershaw has only faced the Rangers twice in his career.
This day in Dodgers’ history:
- 1957 The Dodgers’ Roy Campanella surpasses former Cub and Giant backstop Gabby Hayes to establish a new National League mark when he hits his 237th career round-tripper as a catcher. Campy’s historic home run comes off Ray Crone in the seventh inning of Brooklyn’s 7-2 loss to the Braves at Ebbets Field.
- 1972 LA outfielders Manny Mota and Willie Davis both hit inside-the-park homers down the foul lines at Dodger Stadium off Bucs’ starter Bruce Kison. Roberto Clemente’s seventh inning home run over the fence proves to be the difference in Pittsburgh’s 7-5 victory, their 21st win in their last 26 games.
Also, in 1938 In the first of two consecutive no-hitters he will hurl, Johnny Vander Meer keeps the Boston Bees hitless in Cincinnati’s 3-0 victory at Crosley Field. The Reds’ southpaw, in the first night game played in Brooklyn, continues his no-no mojo four days later by beating the Dodgers, 6-0, without giving up a hit in the Ebbets Field contest.
Lineup when available.
NPUT
Giants lost to the Nationals, 2-0, Saturday in the seven-inning first game of a day-night doubleheader. The second game will also be seven innings.
I am going to the second game! First time in a ballpark since October 27, 2019, when I saw WS game 5 at National Stadium.
Willie Calhoun. I wondered what happened to him after we traded him. Looks like he’s doing OK. Supposed to be a good hitter but terrible on defense. So we traded him to the AL.
He tweeted that he was thrilled to finally have the chance to play in Dodger Stadium.
That’s cool.
Wouldn’t mind still having… Yu Darvish.
That run, and any subsequent ones Kershaw may allow in this inning, unearned.
These guys ate their Wheaties this morning.
Gnats luck out against Nats, but Pads fall to Mutts. DeGrom left the game with elbow issues, though.
That June Swoon has sadly been delayed.
Well, the Gnats lucked out when Scherzer left the game with an injury, but it’s still just 1-0 in the seventh. The Pads, on the other hand, trail deGrom 3-0 after five.
Yippee!
Sure hope Muncy is OK. Lefty starting for Texas tomorrow. Pujols will get the start and Max can rest.
Also Belli. Hope it is a cramp and not a hamstring injury.
Might be slightly more than a cramp.
Belli, as well, not scheduled for tomorrow, has hamstring tightness
Woo-HOO!!!
Yippee!!
Dodgers win!
Whew!
Lol! Yeah it was a real squeaker.
It must be pretty quiet in the Texas clubhouse tonight, unless the manager is angry and loud.
Hard shots getting caught!
And a nubber goes for a base hit.
Baseball.
Old friend trying to get us out!
Charlie!!
Freaking throw strikes. Geeez.
Q– Why is Kershaw still in there?
A– To pad his batting average.
The drive for the Silver Slugger is strong in this one.
Urías has to be the leader.
Kershaw looking to reel him in…
As long as it’s a Dodger pitcher who wins the last one – I’ll be pleased.
Kershaw is now hitting .286 to Urias’s .208, but Urias leads him in RBIs, 7-3. Buehler is batting .148. No other Dodger pitcher has even one hit. Bauer is 0-for-22.
Oh Clayton. You should have done that when the bases were loaded!
Obviously not clutch.
I’d like Kersh to keep his era down but I guess either way he will, given the errors.
Speaking of era – I just can’t get my mind around deGrom’s! 0.56
I watched him a little bit tonight. So so good.
Filthy!!
Sloppy half inning.
Lux threw those two like I would.
He wishes.
I think I can throw more accurately, but without the arm strength.
I believe it.
Lux is losing it.
Dodgers have forgotten how to throw.
Technically not an error…
Oh dear Lux.
He really needs to tighten up his defense.
Deep enough to score Albert!
Not watching. What row did it land in to score Albert?
Edge of the warning track.
Gotcha. Thanks.
Apocryphal story: One of the Molina brother hits a shot off the left-centerfield wall, and the broadcaster says, “And he’s rounding first, and he’s rounding first, and he’s rounding first . . . “
Bengie once scored from third on a double.
Ha!
Haha!!
Easy does it guys.
Cramp!
Cramp. Phew.
Now Cody coming out. Let’s hope it’s precautionary. NO MORE INJURIES.
Oh dang.
Belli ball.
Like I said…
This is just a miserable game for Texas.
Wow! Nice catch.
So I get home from umpiring a Bronco game (ages 11 and 12) and I saw that we were ahead 8-0, and now it’s 10-0. This has been a strange season….In the game I umpired, a pitcher did something I have never seen or heard above before. Because the catcher had trouble with the third strike, and the first baseman couldn’t handle the throws when the catcher made them, the pitcher ended up striking out five batters in the inning. I doubt if I will ever see or hear of that again.
We already heard about it from Joe and Orel, in a minor league game.
Really? Tonight?
About two years ago: https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/five-strikeouts-in-one-inning-how-charlestons-malcolm-van-buren-did-the-impossible/article_c7ea925c-b53b-11e9-87c3-03c636404bdd.html
You’ve put in a pin in my balloon. Did you use to blow out the candles on other kids’ birthday cakes?
I do not observe birthdays.
Why is that?
I know that Jehovah Witnesses don’t observe birthdays, but I’m guessing that is not WBB.
When they appear at the door, I invite them in for a beer.
Novel approach. Do they come in?
Same with the Mormons. It’s an issue of reciprocity – when they’re willing to have a beer with me, I’m willing to talk about the church with them.
Just the same as any other day.
Let’s go Clayton!
Ah well.
My husband: that’s not a pitch it’s a cry for help.
Haha!!
Good one. LOL
What was that?! Lol!!!
AJ just missed hitting his HR.
The Rangers are really terrible this year, aren’t they? I feel a little sorry for them.
They have lost 21 of their last 27 apparently.
Ooph.
And we weren’t fans of 5-15…
Painful for the fans and the players.
True.
I like Kershaw’s chances tonight to add another W to his ledger.
Save a few for mañana, fellas.
HR heaven!
Smith!!!
Cody running into that out with conviction.
My husband says Albert will do anything not to have to run full bore.
Pujols!!!
Pujols has been raking against lefties. Something this team really needed.
I would never have guessed he’d have this renaissance but it’s really a bright addition to our team.
Prince Albert!!
Smith shoulda had that one.
Not sure, but Barnes probably does.
More familiar with the bouncer pitch.
Yep.
Watching under the table tonight. Go Dodgers!
What did you do to Scherzer?
Just saw that he went 0.1 innings. Not idea.
Left with an injury, but apparently not arm-related.
Muncy has right side tightness. Dang.
That doesn’t sound encouraging. Could be the dreaded oblique.
He gets hurt a lot it seems to me.
Not really.
Must be my imagination.
Recency bias.
Link, don’t know how you’re managing to do your daily treatments and daily postings but I so appreciate it!
For sure.
Add my thanks to our hero as well!
Hear, hear!
Absolutely.
Treatments always at the same time: 10:30 AM. Barring other appointments I can find time in the afternoon for these posts.
Kersh strikes out the side.
Hi all. Have been watching and cooking and wooting! Great start.
We set you up with a 6 run appetizer.
Tasty!
Here it’s a light dinner of empanadas de humita (Argentine-style) and a glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, plus some Rainier cherries for dessert.
Sounds a lot better than my homemade cole slaw and Brie and tomato torte courtesy of Trader Joe’s.
Argentine-style empanadas are the best – light crust, usually baked, with a diversity of fillings. These are homemade, but we also have three Argentine bakeries within a couple miles of our house.
That sounds amazing.
We had our weekly homemade pizza (naan crust) and movie night (Hidalgo).
Bellinger just missed a HR himself.
Why is Max out?
Has any team ever hit for the home run cycle in a single inning?
I wondered that myself.
Dodgers have scored as many runs with only 1 out in the first inning than the total in Giants-Nationals game PLUS the Padres-Mets game.
Math major in college or statistician?
I do like numbers 🙂
WOOT!!
Lux!!!
6-0!!!
The hits keep coming and they don’t stop coming…
JT!! Back to back!!!
Bye bye hanger slider!
Maximum!!!
deGrom is amazing. I’m sad he is injured. 0.56 is a simply ridiculous ERA.
Tonight’s game is free MLBTV Game of the Day.
Smith catching Kershaw tonight. Is Barnsy hurt?
Minor ankle issue, apparently.
Meanwhile in OKC, https://twitter.com/azfreedman/status/1403521038697254913?s=20
Trade bait?
I don’t think so. Catcher is a premium position, and Barnes will be a free agent.
Dodgers are deep in the catching position however. So you never know.
Barnes will find a starting job over the winter. Ruiz is the next closest to the majors (though Cartaya’s been impressive at Low-A Rancho).
