Rockies at Dodgers, 6:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet RM, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
LHP Kyle Freeland (2-1, 2.56 ERA) goes for the visitors and RHP Dustin May (1-1, 3.00 ERA) goes for the Dodgers. Freeland has a 3.96 ERA in his five career starts at Dodger Stadium, but his walks there equal his strikeouts (14). May has made it into the sixth inning only twice in his five starts this season. In 24 innings this year he’s given up 25 hits; all eight of his runs allowed were earned.
Here’s Joc Pederson’s nice running catch in the sixth inning of yesterday’s game:
On this day in Dodgers’ history:
- 1917 In a 22-inning contest against the Dodgers, Pirates’ outfielder Carson Bigbee sets a major-league record with 11 at-bats. The game was also the fourth straight extra-inning game played by Pittsburgh (total of 59 innings), which sets a National League record.
- 1965 Juan Marichal thinks Johnny Roseboro throws too close to his head returning the ball to Sandy Koufax and attacks the Dodger catcher with his bat. The Los Angeles backstop suffers cuts on the head during the 14-minute brawl.
- 2000 Hitting a solo blast and a three-run round-tripper during a nine-run sixth inning of a 14-6 victory over the Expos, Dodger first baseman Eric Karros becomes the first player in the 111-year franchise history to hit two homers in an inning.
Lineup when available.

From the MLB wrapup story:
It was funny to watch.
Yeah, I saw a clip on ESPN.
All Betts with some help for Corey. Coors math to trade a run for an out like that?
Bad baserunning puts the Dodgers ahead!
Addition by subtraction .
Re: bullpen carts:
LIfe, death and rebirth.
What a great article. I do now vaguely recall the Mets cart!
Any of your grandchildren six or up? Here’s a model of the Mets’ cart.
Nice way to end a long day.
I could even hear the cutouts cheering from over here
Dodgers win!
Very sudden ending to a back and forth game.
I like those sort of sudden endings
Bard was really efficient.
There. We. Go
Did he catch… WALK OFF HR
Woo-HOO!!!
Belli!!!!!
Nice K Kenley!
Jansen jogging in. Remember when relief pitchers were driven to the mound in a golf cart?
Really?
Yes
To music?
I am thinking thank Hoffman was the first to have music.
Or Charlie Sheen and Wild Thing!
Apparently Sparky Lyle in 1972.
But…Pomp and Circumstance!?
Trevor?
I don’t remember that. Should have played music only The Surrey With The Fringe On Top
Bullpen cars were the bomb back in the day.
Do we want a walk off ninth or watch an inning start with a runner on second and win it in the 10th?
9th for sure
There’s your answer!
Indeed
Quique won’t get a Gold Glove, simply because he moves around the field too much to qualify at any single position.
And/or gets removed later in games for a pinch hitter.
There’s a minimum requirement for innings at each position (not sure what that is).
Normal season it is 713 total innings through the team’s first 142 games. After that it is the position most played.
For a 60 game season that translates into the first 52 games and something like 260 innings, I think.
I’m fine with no walk-off if it means scoring here in the 8th.
Again, Gameday not very enlightening. It says Muncy to Seager, to Barnes, to Muncy to Treinin. What was Max doing throwing it to Corey?
Deflection.
Thanks.
Deflected off his glove.
Gracias.
¡No hay porque!
He is OUT!
Teamwork on that play!
Pinball maneuver.
Working the flippers!
Checking in. See we’re tied. We are staying with old friends who have a 1,000-acre cattle ranch about 20 miles southeast of Hollister. Wonderful people and they are both MDs. Air quality not great but much better than Carmel Valley. Stress level diminished. Mandatory evacuations where we live. We voluntarily evacuated Thursday.
So glad you have a safe haven for now. These fires are horrific.
Good to hear,Scoop buddy.
10-4.
Ride a cow and eat a steak or two while you wait this thing out.
Barnes door closed.
Clever.
Didn’t swing shut, though.
Was it ever open?
Unbelievable. Dodgers had bases loaded 2 different times and only scored 1 run.
Old Barnes, not new Barnes, sadly.
Another walk. And now Joc… I hope this pays off.
Taylor smoked it, but straight at somebody.
I’ll take the tie for now.
Let’s squeak one more in.
I wonder what the numbers are for teams scoring with runners on second and third nobody out vs bases loaded nobody out. Both have an expectancy in the 2’s I would imagine. But I wonder if it’s higher when the bases aren’t loaded because no force play.
2.0 with second and third; 2.25 bags full.
Thanks for the numbers Bob. It’s just too bad the Dodgers underperformed by either of those standards.
Let’s pull off a Slam Diego here.
Nope. But we got one!
Let’s try for it again
Excellent eye, Cody.
AJ – that’s so helpful!
AJ mad after that strike one call.
Okay AJ.
He done it!
Our franchise HBP leader.
Should have padded the back of his leg instead or his record.
BTW, I don’t want that record
Only been with the team six full seasons. That is a lot of plunking.
Ron Hunt got 50 in one season. Most for Turner is 19.
Baylor also had a few
Believe he is the leader at 267, about 20 more than Hunt (old friend). Most in a season was 35.
Tapia is so wiggly at the plate!
Maybe tonight will be the Dodgers first walk-off win of the season.
Messy run.
That was truly ugly.
Checking GameDay, it wasn’t as close as it looked to me.
We shoulda gotten that call, if life was fair.
Freeland is pitching better and better.
He’s had a good year so far.
What happened? Gameday not very enlightening.
Story hit a slow roller to short, Seager bare hands, bobbles, throws the ball into the dugout, Story to second.
How did he get to third to score in n the sac fly? Granted 2 bases?
Ground ball to second.
Yeah, Gameday has him going to second on the ground out.
Sigh…
Seager shoulda et that one.
True but it wouldn’t have tasted good.
Dodgers looking like a team that has played about 16 games in a row.
Umps still consolidating their bad strike calls with Muncy.
I always thought Marichal should have been arrested, and then charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon.
Nice to have a gold glove caliber second baseman on the field
Nice, Kiké!
Yes Kiké!
Quique is a brilliant 2B!
GG!
May does not appear to hold runners well.
Hi all! Just finishing up my black bean and corn quesadillas and wedge salad… enjoying the game so far. Love watching May and his red Samson-like locks.
I’ll be honest – when I first read that I read you finished up your black belt!
Did that years ago… (kidding)
Ha!
It was made of leather and you made it at summer camp, right?
Where’s our 11k’s Dustin May? Got spoiled the last 2 nights with Kershaw and Buehler.
Weird to see Mookie strike out swinging.
He’s a looker?
CT3 how you be!
CT3 with the unexpected HR.
He be CT360
That was supposed to be an inch higher.
May is fun to watch.
It’s amazing to think of all the young live arms on the team.
Buehler, May, Gonsolin, Urias, Gray, Graterol, etc…
Santana looking good as well.
True!
Bit of an eager beaver that Seager.
