Game 24, 2020

Mariners at Dodgers, 6:40 PM PDT, TV: ROOTNW, SPNLA

RHP Justin Dunn (1-1, 4.85 ERA) makes his eighth MLB start tonight. He gave up seven hits and two runs in six innings in his last start and earned his first big league win. That was the longest he’d ever pitched since being promoted from the minors. He’ll face the Dodgers’ RHP Ross Stripling (3-1, 3.97 ERA), who gave up four unearned runs (six overall) in his last start and was pulled in the fifth inning.

Here’s a video recap of yesterday’s game:

Today in Dodgers’ history:

  • 1992 Kevin Gross, retiring 22 of the final 23 batters he faces on his wife’s birthday, no-hits the Giants at Dodger Stadium, 2-0. The LA right-hander’s no-no averts the team from being swept in a four-game series at home against the Giants for the first time in 69 years.
  • 2013 Clayton Kershaw blanks the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, 5-0, giving the Dodgers their first double-digit winning streak since 2006. The team’s 42 victories in their last fifty games, including a 25-3 mark since the All-Star break, equals the 1941 Yankees and 1942 Cardinals for the best record for that span of games since 1900.

  1. Our Seager was quoted as saying if there was one thing he could take from Kyle it would be Kyle’s speed. Corey, keep hitting homers and we’ll forgive you.

  2. Fluke single, borderline ball four call, and Kenley bearing down for the pop fly second out!

  3. I’m guessing that I’m the only person here to have attended major league games at three different Seattle ballparks, and also the only one to have seen old friend Tommy Davis play for the Pilots at Sicks’ Seattle Stadium.

    • I’m guessing you’re right.

I may be the only here to have attended major league games at three different stadiums that the major league Angels called home:
Wrigley Field in L.A. — 1961 (once), although I saw the minor league Angels play here often
Chavez Ravine — 1962-1965 (they never referred to it as Dodger Stadium)
Angel Stadium (and other names) — 1966-
I also saw the Dodgers play at Ebbets Field (once), the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and, of course, Dodger Stadium. (I saw Tommy Davis at the latter two)
All that proves is that I am a baseball fan and I am (getting) old.

  4. That last out from Báez wasn’t scary at all or anything. He says after releasing the breath he was holding.

  5. Hopefully the back half (front half? top half?) of the bullpen can now hold onto this lead.

  6. Hopefully the back half (front half? top half?) of the bullpen can now hold onto this lead.

  7. Hopefully they can tie it up here. But it’s no guarantee even though it’s 3 on and no outs.

  8. Mariners have us right where they want us. We have been less than stellar with bases loaded.

  9. Feels like an Oprah or Ellen episode broke out with this Seager parent interview.

  10. Michelle just gave her speech at the Dems Convention. I thought she did a great job.

  11. I am blacked out due to being in the Mariners’ backyard. Was it a short throw home to get Joc out at home?

  12. I never get tired of seeing Corey drop that knee down and get those inside low pitches. So elegant.

  13. Chris Taylor’s interview was a solid string of platitudes in a relentless monotone.

      • I was impressed that the pitch of his voice never changed. NO inflection whatsoever. He did manage to avoid saying they were taking them one day at a time at least.

      • Read that their Seager said he looked forward to playing against our Seager to see what all the hoopla was about.
