Game 25, 2017

Phillies at Dodgers, 6:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN-P, MLBN (out-of-market only)

RHP Zach Eflin (0-0, 1.50 ERA) takes the hill for the Fightin’ Phils against RHP Brandon McCarthy (3-0, 2.25 ERA) of the Blue Crew. The last time the Dodgers saw Eflin they scored seven runs and hit three homers in three innings in his final start of 2016.

McCarthy last faced the Phillies in April of 2014 when he was with the Diamondbacks. A.J. Burnett beat him with help from his now-teammate Chase Utley despite McCarthy’s seven innings and 12 strikeouts.

Justin Turner has a 14-game hitting streak.

The Number One prospect in the MLB draft is a kid named Hunter Greene from Notre Dame HS in Sherman Oaks, Ca. He pitches and plays shortstop. He visited the Dodgers and tweeted these photos this morning:

It’s unlikely he’ll still be available by the time the Dodgers select in the first round, folks.

Lineup when available.

  1. Roster crunch time! Always assumed that Cody was up for a cup of coffee, but even if that is still the case, the GM will earn his money with Joc, Logan and Franklin soon to come off the DL. Imagine that there is a Cody/Toles tradeoff (Toles has perked up a bit lately). While the approach has been that the Dodgers can’t have enough righthanded bats, perhaps now there is a SVS/Franklin tradeoff as well, with Justin spelling AGon at first. A decision on Utley will have to be made at some point, but I am guessing that it will be kicked down the road a bit, so Logan for Taylor. Joc then would replace a reliever? Romo and Hatcher are candidates but the Dodgers would have to risk losing them, or they could lose Ross for ten days.

  2. Just the sort of game to wreck havoc with one’s outside baseball life for the rest of the season, particularly for us Eastcoasters. Now, how in the world will I be able to shut off games in the future and go to bed even when we are behind by 3 runs in the ninth?

    • Just another argument in favor of the west coast!
Much better than those games where you go to bed with a Dodger lead, only to see it blown!

      • Still pretty good odds if we are ahead. W-L if we are ahead at beginning of the 7th is 11-1, 8th 11-2, 9th 11-0.

  3. I was watching in bed because of early morning flight, and almost turned off the iPad after eight. Then I decided to stick it out, for good reason it turned out.

  4. Wow! Woke up this morning to find that the Dodgers pulled it out. Watched the video of the 3+whatever you call what Adrian hit and what I like the most was Joe Price’s Vinnyesqe silence after Barnes scored.

  5. I was following the game on Gameday and had the same thought RBI shared earlier — they are not playing as a championship team.
They are in the 9th inning — end it here!

  6. Suddenly this game has become more interesting!
Can Turner hit his first HR of the year?!!

  7. Might have to wait until tomorrow to win our first series since the season opening series against SD.

  8. The Phillies have a bit of Dodger-itis in getting base runners around to home. Fortunately.

  9. Good pitching by McCarthy to get out of the 2nd without giving up a run despite the leadoff double.

  10. Forgot it was an earlier start tonight. Nice to come in already up 1 after 1.

  11. RBI: I love the photographs of you and the Jackie Robinson statue that you posted last night. Thanks for sharing them. I look forward to seeing the statue on my next visit to Dodger Stadium. Here is a link to a free-lance article that I wrote about Robinson for the April 26, 2013, issue of The Carmel Pine Cone, a weekly newspaper on the Monterey Peninsula. My story begins in the middle of Page 26A and jumps to 28A:
