Game 80, 2016

Dodgers at Brewers, 5:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSWI, MLBN (free game)

Brock Stewart started the season in Class A (Advanced) with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. During his rise to AAA the 24-year-old righthander has compiled a 1.47 ERA and a 99:14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 14 starts. He’ll be opposed by 31-year-old rookie Junior Guerra, who’s 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA. He faced the Dodgers in LA and had the worst start of his season in which he gave up five runs on five hits but came away with a no-decision.

Here’s a stat which may surprise:

Coming into the series, both teams ranked in the top three for percent of wins via comeback this season. With 19 out of 34 (56 percent), the Brewers ranked second, and the Dodgers were right behind, winning 23 of their 42 games (55 percent) via a comeback.

Lineup:

No surprise, Pederson is not in the lineup after his wall-banging catch last night.

    • I hadn’t realized that Mac Williamson was such a human highlight reel. He’s become my favorite Gnat.

  1. I think the Giants may have just experienced a triple play. Never mind. I am wrong. Gameday was hinky.

  2. I’m still mad at Braun for beating Kemp out for MVP. Might be time to let that go. (As he hits a HR)

  3. Looking at our starters’ batting averages, where Seager is the only one over .275, it’s almost a wonder we’ve won as many games as we have.

    • As Agon was walking back to the dugout he made a dismissive gesture toward the 3rd base umpire with a flick of his wrist. Sometimes it doesn’t bother us when we get the FU, but won’t take being dismissed.

  4. We are down to one bench player. And Junior appears to be pitching way out of his league.

  5. I’m surprised the Brewers’ record isn’t better. Their lineup is much stronger than ours.

  6. Got them right were we want them. Dodgers have the easier path for a comeback win!

    • That came out of nowhere, but it could be at least a partial explanation for his prolonged slump. Having acquired Chris Taylor, the Dodgers now have another legitimate backup SS.

Meanwhile, it sounds as if Joc is pretty sore.

      • Where did you read about Joc? i haven’t seen anything except he is day to day.

Not sure about how DL placements are scrutinized or if the league and teams worry about how or when it is used so if its no big thing as to its use, I think the Dodgers put Kike’ on the DL so he doesn’t have to take a cut in pay or lose any time served benefits toward retirement instead of sending him to OK.

He can groove his swing in AZ and maybe even add first base to his game. He needed time to get his game together like Puig did. I don’t think he is hurt.

  7. I’m eager to see a pitcher who’s risen so rapidly this season, after being utterly unheralded.

    • Read where his father, a scout for the Pads downplayed his son’s potential. He is now a Dodger scout.
