Happy Father’s Day to all you merry commenters and to your fathers as well.
Brewer at Dodgers, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSWI
Two righthanded fathers (Garza, six kids; Maeda, one) go at each other this afternoon. The Brewers’ Matt Garza (0-0, 2.25 ERA) is making only his second start of the year; he missed the first ten weeks with a strained right lat muscle. In his first start he went four innings, gave up one run, struck out five and walked only one. His opposite number, Kenta Maeda (6-4, 2.75 ERA) took a line drive off his shin his last time out; the team insists there was no lasting damage and he’s good to go.
Howie Kendrick is 8-15 lifetime against Garza.
Lineup:
Utley 2B
Seager SS
Turner 3B
González 1B
Thompson RF
Pederson CF
Kendrick LF
Ellis C

Here’s one man’s analysis of the reasons behind each team’s motive to do the Zach Lee to the Mariners in exchange for Chris Taylor to the Dodgers: depth, depth, depth.
The Dodgers have great depth in near-ready starting pitching. Notice they went for a SS in first round of draft.
All the best to Zack Lee. May he find a roster spot on the 25 with his new team.
He talked about going back to LSU, I wonder if this helps/hurts that possibility.
Sounds like another Phew-Hoo!!! I’ll take it!

With the Nats (gnot the Gnats) next up on the schedule, I was pleased to see how efficient Báez and Kenley were. Presuming Kershaw goes deep into the game tomorrow night, the ‘pen should be well-rested from Tuesday on.
Monday and Wednesday against the Nats and Sunday against the Pirates: ESPN games all.
I hate the Sunday ESPN blackouts. They won’t even post highlights during the game.
We have some tough opponents coming up, so it would be nice for the giants to lose a few.
Didn’t you know? They don’t lose in even years.
Our two pinch-hitters drove in both our runs with a homer and a bases-loaded walk and our pinch-runner scored the winning run. What a bench!
A bunch of overachieving.190 hitters!
Five games over .500 for only the second time this season (12-7), winners of 17 of the last 27 games. The Giants are bound to cool off and we could be a lot closer than 6 1/2 out fairly soon.
We win!
Grandal’s not hit well so far this year, but he’s still patient, with a good eye.
Nicely done.
I’ll take any win, exciting or not
Grandal with the walk off walk!
Not an exciting way to win, but I’ll take it.
I was excited!
nothing fancy, a bloop single would do
Maybe Seager could double down on home runs here.
Hernandez has only one less home run than Gonzalez now.
Nice Quique!
Yes!
My oh my!
Kiké!
None of the four position players we have on the bench is hitting above .190.
Fortunately he was ahead in the count and swinging well.
Baez just got 5 outs on 12 pitches. I like good Baez.
Pleasantly surprised by his outing.
Getting a kick out of Maldonado’s variety of squats behind the plate.
The bats, the bats! One night an explosion, the next day an exercise in futility!
Just what I was thinking. The team is unable to sustain its hitting. Meanwhile, the Giants seem to have no interest in losing.
That GIDP hurts.
Nice gutting it out, as they say, by Kenta.
Pitches through four innings: Maeda 80, Garza 44.
Despite giving up a hit, Maeda needed only seven pitches in the 5th.
Well, with the heat the bullpen arms should not take long to warm up.
We are certainly not making Garza work. Maeda, on the other hand…
Man, two outs on baserunning to end innings in this game.
And at 3rd and home to boot.
I think Chase only went home to draw the throw, as it looked like Seager was going to be doubled off of second in any event.
Yes, that was the case – rookie mistake by Seager.
Hi all. Brief check in. Go Dodgers. Boo Gnats (8 wins in a row? Where is this slump WBBsAs was predicting?).
Uh oh, I see we have messed up a second and third with no outs already. Hope things improve
Sigh. Yep.
Sad that this is the last Father’s Day with Vin announcing.
46 pitches, two innings. The bullpen really needs you to go about seven innings, Kenta. Please get more efficient.
On a hot day like this, it could be tough.
Bolsinger optioned to AAA, Carlos Frias brought up.
No surprise there.
Utley does not score run number 1000.
Huh. That’s a career milestone. Oh well, next time up, no doubt. And who among active players is he just ahead of? Carl Crawford with 998.
Our pitchers need to relearn the concept of keeping runs off the board early.
