Game 16, 2016

Dodgers at Braves, 9:10AM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSSO, MLBN (out of network only).

Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 1.64 ERA) and the Dodgers make their last appearance at Turner Field versus right-hander Matt Wisler (0-1, 4.61 ERA). Kershaw hasn’t pitched much against the Braves in his career; he’s 2-0 in six career starts against them with a 1.79 ERA. He and the Dodgers would to exit with a win, both to take this series 2-1 and to improve the franchise record at Turner, where they’re 30-41 going into this morning’s game.

The game starts at 6:10AM my time, so someone else please find the lineup and post it in the comments. I ain’t getting up at 5:30 just to do it.

Won’t be around much for this one but the lineup is:
2B Utley (thought he might be off today)
    SS Seager
    1B Gonzalez
CF Peterson (birthday boy at cleanup)
    RF Thompson
    LF Hernandez
    C Ellis
    3B Culberson
    P Kershaw

    Vs
    Wisler (a righty)

    • Bob_Hendley

Howie probably needed the day off more than Chase did.

Got to run and play squash now!
    Then out for lunch.
And then back to the game.

  • Bob_Hendley

    B squad scores!

  • Bob_Hendley

Back where we started. Tie game.

    • WBBsAs

May have gotten a break on that challenged call at 3B.

      • Bob_Hendley

Seems that his hand lifted off the bag with the tag still on him.

        • WBBsAs

          It still looked extremely close.

          • Bob_Hendley

On the field call is supposed to get the benefit of the doubt barring conclusive evidence that the call was wrong.

          • WBBsAs

From what I saw, the call would have been safe, but it wasn’t 100 percent clear.

          • Bob_Hendley

Recall that Donnie felt that NYC shouldn’t be told what the call was, though in most instances that would be clear to them from the replay.

          • WBBsAs

Yeah, but Don was never known for his analytical abilities.

  • Bob_Hendley

    Clayton getting tattooed.

  • WBBsAs

Kershaw doing his best (worst?) Alex Wood impression?

    • Bob_Hendley

Doctor DP to the rescue (care of Chase).

      • Bob_Hendley

Last year in 32 games with the Dodgers he provided dWAR 0.9. (that would be 4.5 over 162 games!).

  • Bob_Hendley

Have to jump on a plane to fly back to DF.

    • WBBsAs

      Está lleno de chilangos.

  • Good morning all. Yikes, Kershaw was in a tag play at home?

  • scooplew

We’re sleepwalking through most of this series.

  • Bob_Hendley

How close was the call at the plate?

    • WBBsAs

Extremely close but, in my opinion, Kershaw failed to get the foot down on the plate. I can’t disagree with the call.

  • Bob_Hendley

    Dang

  • Clayton, don’t blow this tie game now!

  • Bob_Hendley

    Chase sets the table.

    • WBBsAs

      But Joc spills the plate.

  • Kiké and Yasmani pick the team up in the 10th.

  • Dodgers win! Dodgers win!

  • WinnipegDave

We win! And I missed the whole thing. But we win!

    • WBBsAs

      Frustrating process, best-case result.

  • Bob_Hendley

Just landed and see that the Bums landed another victory!

  • Meanwhile, yesterday:

RHP Pedro Baez underwent the concussion protocol after being struck in
the back of the head by a ball while teammate Adam Liberatore was
warming up in the bullpen during Wednesday night’s game. ”He feels much
better today,” manager Dave Roberts said.

Liberatore said it slipped, and it was about 70 mph rather than 90, but he felt horrible about it.

  • RBI

    Woo-HOO!!!

  • Kershaw threw an eephus pitch of sorts in today’s game, but it wasn’t intended that way.

    • Bob_Hendley

Funny how they were talking about him working on his change up right at that moment.

  • Puig playing third in infield practice. Video to prove it.

If you’re aware of Prince’s death earlier today, you’ll appreciate this recap of the Dodgers’ game from Eric Stephen. Check the links.

    • Bumsrap

I have said a few times here and at Dodger Thoughts that Puig could play third. No ine agreed with me.

      • Bob_Hendley

Issue was more should rather than could, no?

        • Bumsrap

Most wanted to keep his arm and baseball mind in RF. I would love to have his speed at 3rd base not so much defensively but more to remove a slow runner from the lineup as 3rd basemen are usually slower.

The Dodgers have Verdugo and Diaz on their way up and already have Joc, Thompson, SVS, Ethier, Crawford, Hernandez in the outfield. Turner might be a free agent next year.

None of the infielders coming up in the minors seem to be above average. They all seem to be 2 tool infielders and none are third basemen. The next third baseman if Turner leaves seems to be Hernandez unless Puig joins in the battle.

  • HLKLA

Cubs game ended in a very interesting manner!

    • Bob_Hendley

Ha! You can say it once it’s over.
