This morning Vin Scully held a press conference to say he would be back next year but that the 2016 season would be his last.
βI would say realistically, and I donβt want any headlines, but I would say next year would be the last one,β Scully said

Things off to a great start at The Phone Booth today.
that’s funny, I just posted something virtually the same on the other post, then I read this one π
Well….. things have sure gotten interesting…. haven’t they? … π
So feelings schmeelings – Dodgers can score some more runs off of Lester! 4-2 but still time to score more (which might be a good idea).
” Never can have enough insurance runs…. ”
– the LA Dodgers bullpen. π
Three more innings to try and score one or two runs. Crazy that it seems like a big mountain to climb but perhaps the Dodgers have their hiking shoes on.
My ability to listen to the game and comment here is apparently much better than watching the game and commenting.
Anyway, I hope I’m wrong but feels like this one will just slip out of Dodgers grasp. Latos pitched well but high pitch count and the balk did him in for sure. The bats vs Lester seem quiet. Listening to Vin is great however. Soaking it up while he is around.
And now – as Vin would say – back to the game.
Good way to go out. We know that next year will be his last before going in.
I agree. If Rivera and Jeter can have a farewell-tour year, then Vin definitely deserves one!
This has roughly the same information, but the comments are particularly nice: many non-Dodger fans — including at least one Giant fan! — singing the praises of Vinny.

I wondered how it would be that Vin would announce his retirement. Can you imagine – for example – if one of the past three years when it was announced that he would return, that instead it was announced that he wasn’t coming back? The crowd at the game would be stunned and sad and taken out of the game for a while. It would have been a real downer. This press conference makes much more sense.
All that being said, I am quite sad to know he will be done next year. I had just begun to hope he might hit 70 years.
