Game 62, 2015

Dodgers at Padres, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSSD, MLB (free game)

Zack Greinke is really hard on the NL West in general and the Padres in particular.

He’s 22-2 with a 2.06 ERA against division rivals since joining the Dodgers, and 5-1 against San Diego. His only decision against the Padres this year is a win and he’s allowed them two runs in 20 2/3 innings.

He starts today against Ian Kennedy, who is 0-2 with an 8.71 ERA against the Dodgers this year and 5-9 in his career with a 4.50 ERA. Overall, Greinke is 5-1 with a 1.92 ERA this season and Kennedy is 3-5 with a 6.48 ERA.

Okay, on paper the Dodgers should win. That’s why they play the games, as Chris Berman used to say about some NFL mismatch.

Lineup when available.

Looks familiar except everybody’s favorite 3rd baseman is in today. If they play well, nothing he does or doesn’t do will matter. Same result if they don’t play well. I’m glad I’m not buying tickets for games these days.

  2. So do the Padres still score a million runs a game for Shields or is that trend over now? I see he is 7-0.

  3. Pretty lame game. Sometimes our offense is so anemic it’s hard to believe we’re in first place.

    • Which is why I was personally surprised they didn’t pinch hit for Greinke in the top of the 8th.

        • Yes to the first point. As for the second point, he can hit – but Guerrero can hit (and especially pinch hit) a lot better.

          • Good point. And then, there’s our bull pen. I think it was a tough call, and yes, probably the wrong call, in hindsight. But Greinke, I’m sure, wanted to stay in.

  4. Just walked by park and heard crowd before audio MLB audio told HR.
Apparently story is once again MIA offense.

    • Ugh. Our pitchers are going to go on “strike” at some point, and I won’t blame them.

  5. Same movie as last night. Go too far with the starting pitcher and give up the homerun.

    • I can never decide if it is really smart or really dumb to take a good cut on the first pitch. Wasn’t it Ted Wulliams who said it is often the best pitch you will see in an AB? On the other hand, there’s the whole making a pitcher work/high pitch count thing.

  6. Greinke’s doing his job. Time for the offense to step up. Okay, guys. Let’s score some runs!

    • Top of the order coming up so now would be a good time to start hitting and scoring.

  7. I’m still in Denver, watching on Game Day. (Just joined the party.) Pretty skimpy comments so far.

    • I’m just joining in as well. Out at a friend’s 40th bday party.
This game is making me nervous. It shouldn’t be this tight should it?

    • But Grandal led off the inning with it! Rally-killer!

(Of all the specious arguments, that one about “good” and “bad” home runs had to be close to the silliest of all time.)

  8. Called up from Reno, where he had an ERA of 9.00, old friend Allen Webster beats the Gnats and Vogelscheiße 4-2 at The Phone Booth.
