Game 96, 2014

I made a mistake the day before yesterday: Clint Robinson has been designated for assignment, not sent to Albuquerque.

Padres at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MLBN, FSSD

Paul Maholm will pitch for the Dodgers, taking Josh Beckett’s place while he’s on the DL. Maholm has made seven starts this season, going 1-4 with a 5.50 ERA. Overall he’s 1-4 with a 5.18 ERA. He’ll face Ian Kennedy, who’s 7-9 with a 3.71 ERA. He’s gone 4-4 with a 3.49 ERA in nine starts on the road as he’ll be tonight.

Lineup when available.

  1. Ned slams the brakes on the “trade prospects for an elite starter” talk–at least publicly.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/la/dodgers-gm-ned-colletti-unlikley-to-trade-top-prospects-for-elite-pitcher?ymd=20140712&content_id=84428012&vkey=news_la

Not appearing too eager is one of the key rules of negotiation. Still, no doubt Ned answers quickly when the phone rings and it’s Tampa area code. Saw a good analysis the other day that if the Dodgers did land Price they’d be a juggernaut for several years.

Tampa is asking for the moon–reportedly all 3 of the best prospects. The price may drop since Tampa really needs to move Price soon or else get nothing and reportedly has been shopping him for some time.

Philly no doubt also asking the moon and stars for Hamels–IF they’d even trade him. So…

    • The Devil Rays still have another year of Price – free agent after 2015 season – so they could easily wait until the off-season to make a deal.

      • OK. Thought I saw somewhere this was Price FA year. Guess not.

Plus, they still may hold out hope this year after a bit of a turnaround

They probably could get more for him now, tho.

  2. This was HUGE, to me — they have not been playing well as a team this week (they should’ve scored many more for Kersh). They were in danger of slipping out of 1st before the ASB . . . and I’m seeing them tomorrow and i didn’t want them going in having lost 4 of their last 5.

At the beginning of June, my “waffle”/fantasy was for them to be only 3 back at the ASB. If they would have ended this week trailing, it would’ve been disastrous.

    Let’s pad the lead manana!

    • Sunday is a more HUGE game, starting with you being there! Losing with our sixth starting wouldn’t have been surprising, but getting Ryu back on track, after getting shelled and going only 2.1 innings in Detroit, will be very important. Moreover, as our last game before next Friday the results will linger with us. Have fun!

      • Thanks!
And if the results aren’t good there, I’m heading to The Happiest Place on Earth on Monday!

  3. I had to watch on Gameday and was watching for — and saw — those magic words with the blue “ball” — in play, run(s)!

  4. So the Tiger pitchers are legitimate Cy Young winners . . . what’s the LA excuse vs. the Padres?

  5. Is this Paul Maholm who has allowed only one hit in 6 IP the same one who has pretty much stunk it up for the Dodgers this year?

It is the Padres, but still…

    • Kind of like Haran’s gem a few games ago.

Thanks goodness, since the offense is in their all-too-standard funk.

  6. Nice to see some pitching (RA for July is 5.2 so far, comaprde to 2.5 for June).. Though it is the Pads, it is our 6th.
