Game 90, 2014

Dodgers at Rockies, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Dan Haren’s record of 8-4 with a 3.57 ERA would look very good on most teams. His last start was probably his best of the season, and he says he’s just trying to keep up.

“I’ve been on good staffs, but it’s tough to hold my weight here,” Haren said. “Every time out the guys are dealing. I’ve just tried to maintain the momentum and haven’t done that until [the last start].”

His pitching opponent today will be Jorge De La Rosa, who gave up eight runs to the Dodgers the last time he faced them in June, when he lost to Kershaw in the no-hit game. Lefty De La Rosa is 8-6 with a 4.86 ERA.

Believe it or not, the Dodgers have made it to 50 wins this season faster than all but two other teams — the As lead the AL West with 53 and the Brewers (the Brewers?) are atop the NL Central with 51.

  1. No matter what happens here, I think it was the only time ever I have been dissatisfied with us only score 5 runs in an inning

    • I looked up to see the scoreboard while at National Stadium and saw that we were losing 8-6, but with bases loaded and no out. I told my buddy that we have the worst BA with the bases load. Next I look, two out on DB and we had scored a run. Frankly, I was happy that we even got a run in that situation.

  2. “just when you think you have seen everything out of that kid”. The commentators summed it up perfectly

    • I always look forward to the video later after it says ……flied/lined out to right ………. thrown out at third!

  3. The Dodgers are trying to make their game as exciting as the end of the Netherlands-Costa Rica match.

  4. Mr. Haren is back into the rhythm of giving up 2 home runs once more. No walks however, so that streak continues.

    • Lotsa K’s, but you can’t allow even a base hit to a washed-up ex-Gnat like Culberson.

    • The fault today lies with the pitching — he’s doubled the runs for a “quality” start.

Still, the offense is showing their anemic side. Guess it’s better to do that in a blowout the bad way instead of in a close game.

  5. I have to admit it’s tough to believe the Dodgers are that successful (3rd fastest to reach 50) . . . being soo close to the team and suffering through monumental fiascoes and having such high expectations and with such a poor home record (tho trending in the right direction) can do that, I guess. . . . That’s my excuse, anyway.

  6. I am surprised that Van Slyke is not starting instead of Ethier against lefty De La Rosa in Denver today even though SVS is 0-for-12 in his career against DLR. Ethier is 2-for-15.

  7. Off to see Bryce Harper and Werth. Good luck guys! (I’ll be watching the scoreboard)
