Game 40, 2014

Marlins at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

The Dodgers are really happy to have Dan Haren this season, since he’s posted a 4-1 record with a 2.68 ERA so far. He’ll be pitching against Tom Koehler, who’s 3-2 with a 1.99 ERA.The right-hander beat the Dodgers on May 2 in Florida, going seven strong innings.

Puig extended his hitting streak to eleven games with his home run yesterday. Uribe is still day-to-day.

Lineup when available.

  1. Uribear and Dee are proof of players redeeming themselves, but I think the 2014 Brian Wilson experiment has run its course. If he’s hurt, DL time. If he’s not, let him work this out — in the minors.

    • I would put Dee and Beckett in that class, based on salaries. But Dee pretty much made and makes the minimum. For me the magnitude of the investment and loss/return is an important factor as regards redemption.

    • I don’t think you can send him to the minors, except on a rehab, without his consent.

  2. So who pitches the 9th? Among our relief pitchers, Withrow has the lowest ERA and League the second lowest.

  3. Our bullpen reminds me of Guy Montag, the “firefighter” in Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” whose job is to start fires, not put them out.

  4. He’s the opposite of a relief pitcher, whatever that is. An anxiety pitcher?

  5. Easy to be down that the game wasn’t broken open, but this offense needs baby steps . . . so great job, two more!

Let’s hope Dan wasn’t affected being on the basepath.

  6. Patient Puig . . . two words which weren’t used together much before this year!

  7. Coulda, woulda . . . if Andre hadn’t tried to steal . . . hopefully Puig makes it moot!

  8. Does AJ automatically get his spot back when he’s healthy? He wasn’t hitting that well when he was hurt.

  9. The give-them-back string is over . . . hopefully the stretch of losing is as well!

  10. Just checked back in — depressing that the trend continues: this is at least the 3rd time in a row that Dodger pitching gave up runs after the hitters scored. . . . Let’s hope that string ends right now.

Yay Puig — he is maturing before our eyes!

  11. we just need to gets lots of people on base in a row (I know, easier said than done)

  12. Once again, the pitchers know ‘If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.’

  13. It could be a stalemate today, Dodgers with their bad home record vs Marlins with their even worse away record!

  14. I can’t believe we are up to game 40 – game 2 seemed not so long ago 🙂

      • You can read that either way, 1) with our talent we should be well above that level or 2) the way we have been playing we are lucky we are that high

          • It has been a very weird season. Maholm, Haren, and Beckett have all pitched much better than I expected. And although I was willing to give Gordon another shot to pull things together, I never expected he’d be anywhere near this good.

And then there is the bullpen…
