Game 21, 2014

Phillies v. Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

It’s not Curt Schilling’s bloody sock, but A. J. Burnett’s going to pitch for the Phillies tonight with an inguinal hernia. I had one of those for eight years before finding time to get it repaired, so I don’t think he’s risking much by pitching with it. He’s 0-1 with a 2.74 ERA so far this season.

The Dodgers counter with Hyun-Jin Ryu, who’s 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA. Here’s a startling tidbit: “Ryu has made five starts this season, and four have been scoreless. He allowed eight runs in two innings April 4 against the Giants, but otherwise has not allowed a run in 26 innings.”

Lineup when available.

“Sorry, I couldn’t handle the keyboard for a minute, Hanley cut right in front of me.
    We almost collided.”
    Sincerely,
    Carl Crawford 🙂

  2. Since the Blue can’t play AZ all the time, something’s gotta improve. Let’s hope it’s just the flu bug dragging everyone down.
Or maybe Guerrero will be the ’14 spark Puig.
Even Kersh returning won’t necessarily mean the defense will improve . . . and we know they didn’t give him much run support last year.

    • but remarkably we still lead the West. This feels a bit like when we were coming last part the way through last year.

    • Problem with bringing up Guerrero would be that the only current spark (Gordon) would have to be put on the bench. At this point, I don’t see it happening.

  3. Wow. Just… wow. Hanley should have stayed back. Embarrassing defense. Maybe Howell can keep …never mind.

  4. I expect the defense will come around, but it’d be nice to see it soon, especially when they’re not hitting much.

  5. Defense was a strong point last year, wasn’t it?
    At least stronger than this.
